ACC commissioner 'okay with living in different communities' than the SEC, Big Ten

Commissioner jim phillips addressed the overall health of the conference

chris just good to be talking football right now

Kickoff Jim phillips of course as you said got everything

started in some ways it was actually the main event

of the two days down here in charlotte

Of course you guys may know that there is rapid

expansion with the Big 10 and the sec and those

schools from those conferences are raking in a lot more

money than what the schools in the A

C

Are raking in right now

So reporters here in charlotte wanted to know from phillips

hey what is the long term viability in the long

term health of the A

C

Now phillips kept reiterating that he believes the A

C

C

Is in great shape and in some ways better than

other conferences

But when it does come to the money A

Is behind the Big 10 and the sec phillips used

the metaphor that conferences may live in different gated communities

Access to championships and resources should be the same and

I'm okay with living in different neighborhoods

That that's not my point about

You got to be in the gated community

My point is the community is best when all neighborhoods

are healthy

All of them Some will never reach $25 or $30

million dollars in revenue to provide for their athletics department

But that doesn't mean they don't deserve to be a

part of it to barter the system part of championships

at times

So a lot of folks feel like commissioner phillips missed

the mark completely when it came down to his remarks

about what the long term health of the sec would

be considering what the big 10 and the sec are

currently doing right now
