Man hit, killed by train in Durham

A man was hit and killed by a train in Durham Tuesday morning.

At 5:20 a.m., Durham police responded to a person being hit by a train near the intersection of South Alston Avenue and East Pettigrew Street. Ronnie Earl Shaw was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

Shaw was 42 years old.

The area was temporarily closed to traffic while police investigated.

There were no passengers on the Norfolk Southern train.
