A young stallion was hit and killed by an impaired driver on the Outer Banks on Saturday.
WITN reported that according to the Currituck County Sheriff's Office, 26-year-old Shannon Seamster hit a horse near Nags Head with her Chevy Tahoe.

The 5-year-old stallion was killed on impact. Officials said Seamster was arrested for a DWI.
According to the Corolla Wild Horse Fund, the young stallion was the last of his mother's offspring. The fund said his genetics can never be replaced, and in a critically endangered population, they hoped he would carry on the family line.
Seamster was given a $2,500 bond.
