NC 12 reopened at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at the north end of Ocracoke Island.
The state of emergency issued for the island on Saturday following damage to NC Highway 12 has been lifted, and ferry service resumes on a limited schedule.

State transportation officials said N.C. 12 remains closed between the Marc Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe due to the damage at Pea Island.

The ferry will run between Rodanthe and Stumpy Point at the following times:
Rodanthe to Stumpy Point: 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 5 p.m., 8 p.m., 11 p.m.
Stumpy Point to Rodanthe: 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m., 8 p.m., 11 p.m.
North Carolina Department of Transportation officials told WRAL on Sunday that crews must now work to establish a protective dune before they can install a temporary road at Pea Island.
However, the high tides slammed into the progress crews made on a a protective barrier. But, the NCDOT is hopeful that the waves will calm down overnight and allow for crews to get to work on a temporary one-lane road.
The temporary road could take crews several days to build.
Transportation officials recommended the public wait 1-2 days, if possible, before trying to get off the island with the ferry, as lines to leave are long and the ferry only holds about 25 vehicles.
