Virtually every school district in the WRAL viewing area canceled school on Monday in the interest of safety due to the possibility of severe weather.
The few outliers opted to go to remote or already had a teacher workday.

Several parents commented on the WRAL Facebook page and wondered what gives after They didn't see overly threatening weather today.
So we brought those concerns to area school districts.
The Wake County Public School System told WRAL News the projected timing of the weather played a big part.
The system sent us a statement reading in part, "If the forecast had shown the severe weather arriving an hour or two later, an early release might have been possible. The timing of the storm relative to bus routes is a major factor in these decisions...sustained winds over 30 mph and gusts above 40 mph are conditions we evaluate very carefully."
Only two counties opted for remote learning: Harnett and Wilson counties.
We're told the others didn't have enough time to prepare students for a remote option, making it better to call off school entirely.
