Former ECU associate professor sentenced to federal prison for having child sexual abuse material

Blace Arthur Nalavany, 59, of Winterville, North Carolina plead guilty to having child sexual abuse material .

According to evidence released at the sentencing hearing, Nalavany was an associate professor of social work at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC and  was a licensed clinical social worker at the time of his arrest. 

The crime Nalavany committed occurred at his home and was not connected to his employment or work as a social worker. 

In a release provided by the United States Justice Department, this case was part of Project Safe Childhood. A nationwide effort to combat the sexual exploitation and abuse of children.
