Classrooms at five Nash County schools were without air conditioning on Thursday, as the area remains under a heat advisory.
Heat index values were in the triple digits, adding to what has become a frustrating situation for some parents.

The district has not said what caused the outages, but said students were moved out of affected classrooms.
The schools impacted include G.R. Edwards Elementary, Middlesex Elementary, Red Oak Middle, Rocky Mount Middle and Northern Nash High. Thursday is only the third day of school.
On Thursday night, the district said that issues remained at only two schools.
"Replacement parts have been ordered, and our team is working around the clock to monitor and address the issues," a statement from the district read. "Classes have been relocated to conditioned rooms while repairs are completed. Work will continue until the issues are fully resolved and normal operations can resume."
Elizabeth Paff has a fifth grader at Winstead Avenue Elementary. She said she noticed the air conditioning was not working in some classrooms at her daughter’s school during back-to-school night last Thursday.
A spokesperson for Nash County Public Schools said the district first learned about HVAC issues Wednesday and repairs began immediately.
"My concern is that we don't check on these before school starts, maybe to make sure that everything's working," Paff said.
"If this is something we knew was an issue and we still haven't gotten it fixed, how long is it going to last?" she said.
WRAL asked whether the outages were caused by the extreme heat or whether the HVAC systems need to be replaced.
