The officer arrived and heard screaming from multiple individuals, including children, inside the home. As the door opened, Marcel Ndimubandi was seen inside, armed with a knife.

While the officer was attempting to speak with Ndimubandi, he charged the officer with a knife, according to police. That's when the officer shot Ndimubandi, 65.

Ndimubandi was transported to a local hospital and is now in critical condition; police said he is stable.

"At this time, we will not be releasing the identity of the officer involved in this shooting," the police department said.

Police said Ndimubandi has been charged with 11 crimes in the past 21 months, including two counts of assault on a female and three counts of assault on a government official.

No one in the home was injured during the incident. The State Bureau of Investigation will also be investigating this shooting independently, as is standard procedure.

The investigation is ongoing.
