New research out Wednesday shows children and teenagers dealing with anxiety disorders are more often being treated with medication and not counseling.

This new study published in the journal Pediatrics looked at data involving patients from 4 to 24 years old and their treatment over a period of 12 years.

The study found that although the number of young patients with anxiety disorders increased, the number of them receiving psycho-therapy decreased.

Experts said the results of this study are troubling -- since for most people, therapy is the most effective way to treat anxiety disorders, and, ideally, a combination of counseling and medication.
